Introduction

LUMICKS is seeking a dynamic Application & Business Development ScientistThe successful candidate will be in charge of our C-Trap product and be part of the Dynamic Single Molecule (DSM) European team. You will become an experimental expert at our LUMICKS Experience Centers, conducting dynamic single-molecule experiments and performing high-impact live demonstrations. Your hands-on experience and ability to simplify complex ideas will be crucial in training a broad range of audiences and supporting customer success.

Additionally, you will support the sales process by presenting C-Trap technology at scientific conferences, conducting technical seminars, designing proof-of-concept experiments, and assisting customers with grant writing. You will also collaborate with R&D and marketing teams to develop new applications and create marketing materials such as brochures, application notes, and technical presentations. Teamwork will be key in the role. In this multifaceted role, you will drive technical excellence and business growth, ensuring comprehensive customer support and satisfaction while advancing LUMICKS’ technological impact.

What are my tasks and responsibilities?

  • Perform scientific demonstrations and experiments with Optical Tweezers-Fluorescence microscopes on different types of biological assays.
  • Give technical presentations and have in-depth technical discussions with potential customers with the objective to a explore valuable applications of LUMICKS technology, the C-Trap system to the customer’s research.
  • Work closely with our sales team during both pre- and post-sales to support the technical qualification process, which includes attending video conference meetings, giving technical seminars, performing technical evaluations, designing technical evaluations for the demo lab, preparing post demo reports, technical objection handling, training and continual support to ensure customer success
  • Visit research labs and work with potential customers to explore valuable applications of LUMICKS technology, the C-Trap system.
  • Support development of marketing materials including brochures, application notes, product data sheets and technical presentations.
  • Support customers with in depth training and application support on their LUMICKS instruments to ensure ongoing customer success.
  • Act as the interface between R&D and the customer, helping facilitate the development of new applications with key opinion leaders and supporting testing of products in development.

What about my skills & competencies?

  • You have a PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Cell Biology or other relevant discipline. Experience as an application scientist is an advantage.
  • You have experience with biological applications of biophysical techniques such as optical tweezers or fluorescence microscopy, in particular with assay development
  • You have strong problem-solving skills and can work independently on the project – executing experiments or troubleshooting the assays
  • You are a team player.
  • You are familiar with (or interested in) data analysis and programming in Matlab, Python or equivalent is a plus
  • You have great communication skills and can give presentations to 20+ people.
  • You are comfortable in an independent role with a lot of autonomy.  Working on-site at our customers’ or giving local seminars and meeting new prospects is a crucial part of the role . This also implies that you might be away from home between up to 15% – 20% of the time.  Therefore, you should be willing to travel within Europe. This will require you to be in possession of a valid passport.
  • You are comfortable networking.  Meeting new people with different backgrounds, visiting new places, encountering new circumstances brings you energy.  You connect easily to PhD and PI level researchers in different areas of fundamental biology.
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication in English. Knowledge of other languages will be highly appreciated.
