LUMICKS is seeking an Ad Interim Lab Manager (maternity cover) for 6 months. The successful candidate will be maintaining the laboratory facilities and practices in areas containing biological material (MLI and MLII levels). You are responsible for the daily operations of the lab, such as ordering and inventory, as well as for the safety of the laboratory users. Responsible for equipment use and fixing.

What are my tasks and responsibilities?

Safety

  • Ensuring adherence to Health & Safety procedures
  • Maintaining safe and regulatory chemical and biological waste streams
  • Supervise lab safety and regulatory compliance, including tracking of chemicals and hazardous materials
  • Enforcing the use of correct PPE and other safety rules
  • Reporting laboratory-related incidents, accidents, or calamities to the appropriate parties

Facilities

  • Daily organization, running, and maintenance of laboratory facilities and equipment
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of laboratory spaces and equipment
  • Ensure appropriate and timely equipment repairs and upgrades

Support

  • Ordering, maintaining, and performing inventory on laboratory consumables and chemicals
  • Fulfill other laboratory related tasks to assist research teams (e.g.: equipment moving or selling, decontamination, mycoplasma testing)

Other

  • Establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with external parties, as well as colleagues

What about my skills & competencies?

Qualifications & Requirements

  • BSc or MSc degree in Biological, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology and/or relevant work experience
  • Experience in managing H&S in a laboratory environment
  • Previous experience is working in a research laboratory
  • Experience with procurement of commonly used laboratory supplies (Spendcloud), laboratory inventory management (eLab)
  • Experience working with external suppliers and safety-related entities
  • Knowledge of laboratory H&S regulations
  • Very good IT skills (Microsoft tools, SharePoint, Outlook)
  • High attention to detail, proactivity, and excellent record keeping
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Highly collaborative, and able to work well in an interactive and fast-paced environment
  • Reliable, resourceful, adaptable, trustworthy, and self-motivated
