System engineer

LUMICKS is the leading supplier of high-tech Biotechnology analysis instruments. As part of our new Global IT team, we are looking for a Systems Engineer to be based at our head office in Amsterdam. We are a young, tech-savvy team, and value giving our staff significant freedom and ownership. You will provide first-hand assistance to our engineers, scientists, and staff, helping them to stay productive with our IT systems while keeping our data safe.

As a Systems Engineer at LUMICKS, your responsibilities include implementing and maintaining systems to ensure efficient operation and alignment with the organizational objectives of a diverse landscape. You will enhance the overall IT landscape, streamline processes, and optimize utilization for increased productivity. Additionally, you will identify and resolve system issues, collaborate with stakeholders, and leverage technical expertise to deliver innovative solutions that meet business needs. Reporting to the IT Director, you will support, configure, implement, enhance, and manage a secure multi-cloud and O/S landscape, providing reliable and cost-effective services.

What are my tasks & responsibilities?

  • Understand the business domain to provide initiative-taking service for administering, provisioning, supporting, managing, monitoring, securing, and enhancing the application landscape.
  • Administer, configure, troubleshoot, monitor and maintain Azure AD, identity & privileged access management, SSO/MFA, auto-provisioning, and Entra for secure access.
  • Provide and manage secure file sharing and collaboration tools including Office 365, Teams, Exchange, and SharePoint Online. Maintain and manage endpoint security tooling, Intune, MDM, ensuring compliance and patching
  • Manage infrastructure, including secure and reliable networking, compute, storage, NAS, and other cloud services.
  • Implement and support networking, including secure setup, connectivity, and client troubleshooting for LAN, VPN, Wireless, Firewall, Domain & Certificate Services.
  • Ensure proactive and continuous monitor production networks, applications, and services to enhance services and security.
  • Recommend, develop, plan, implement, automate, and thoroughly document landscape. Maintain a comprehensive knowledge base and network maps.
  • Ensure timely and efficient resolution of third line requests and lead projects.
  • Ensure documented backup and tested disaster recovery procedures for infrastructure, applications, and objects.
  • Provide support and coverage for other team members as needed. Share knowledge and information with team members and across the company.
  • Maintain a strong security mindset and adhere to exacting standards.
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to manage system-related contracts, licenses, and service level agreements.

What about my skills & competencies?

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a system engineering role. Microsoft Azure certification preferred.
  • Experience in configuring and maintaining device management (MDM).
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Amazon AWS, and associated services.
  • Ability to automate IT processes to improve efficiency. Proficiency in scripting tools such as PowerShell and MacOS, as well as application configurations.
  • Familiarity with networking equipment and protocols, privileged access management, least privilege principles, and the zero-trust model. Experience with FortiGate and Aruba networking equipment.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Dutch communication skills.
  • Self-organizing with a passion for learning and scaling IT technology, dependable, personable, and client driven.
  • Build productive relationships with stakeholders, technical staff, vendors, and colleagues, while effectively communicating at all organizational levels and conveying technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to work on various projects with different timelines and priorities.
  • Critical thinking, analytical, and critical thinking skills to diagnose and resolve incidents and problems.
  • Open to flexible working hours to benefit both employee and company, allowing for adaptability and supportiveness.
