Senior Electronics Engineer – Dynamic Single-Molecule

Full-Time Position


As a Senior Electronics Engineer, you will contribute to our Dynamic Single-Molecule (DSM) R&D team at LUMICKS. You will work on new features of the current instruments C-Trap® and m-Trap®, future prototypes and products, and you will have the unique opportunity to grow the products to their full potential.

You will work closely with our agile interdisciplinary engineering teams and applications scientists to develop state-of-the-art systems for single-molecule measurements. These instruments consist of fluidic, mechatronic, pneumatic, thermal, optical, and electrical sub-systems and play a critical role in the discovery of the molecular mechanisms of life. You will be responsible for the electronics architecture of LUMICKS instruments and relations with suppliers and production partners. You will also support the R&D team with troubleshooting and root-causing electrical issues.

What are my tasks & responsibilities?

  • Be responsible for the electronics architecture of LUMICKS instruments and establish standards with regards to ground loops and electromagnetic interference.
  • Establish and maintain a working relationship with an electronics manufacturing partner and provide specifications and test protocols.
  • Lead the development of specialized electronics modules.
  • Define and interpret technical requirements and specifications for new/next-generation instruments and sub-systems.
  • Support the system architect in making the right future-proof design choices based on solid electronics experience.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary team with dedicated performance and application engineers, software developers, and interface with product management on the technology roadmap and product requirements.
  • Provide relevant technical documentation of electronic components.

What about my skills & competencies?

  • BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics.
  • Minimum of 7 years of industry experience.
  • Experience with analog signaling and data acquisition.
  • Knowledge of production methods of PCBs and selection of electronic components.
  • Knowledge of the design of analog and digital circuits.
  • Experience with testing and debugging of electronic hardware in complex systems.
  • Good communication skills, within the technical teams and with the system architect.
  • Good ability to work in an international and young organization.
  • Knowledge and experience with FPGA/VHDL development are a plus.
  • Experience with common device-to-device, on-PCB buses, and communication protocols (CAN, Modbus, 232, I2C), their proper implementation and associated challenges is a plus.
  • Experience in test design and quality assurance is a plus.
  • Experience with EMC compliance, ESD protection, and electrical safety norms is a plus.
  • Experience with CE and/or FCC certification requirements and processes is a plus.
