Principal Scientist – Dynamic Single Molecule

Full-Time Position


The Principal Scientist oversees the scientific vision and delivers the input for long-term strategy within LUMICKS’ dynamic single-molecule (DSM) business unit. You will act as the liaison in the field of molecular and structural biology, deliver the scientific input during the R&D application and workflow development process, and are up to date in the latest trends and market development in the field. After the success of making our technologies widely available for biophysics researchers, we are now ready to unlock our technology for all scientists studying DNA-binding proteins. Within the multidisciplinary leadership team, you will act as an expert on how this field develops and how to show the added value of our instruments. Together you will drive the developments towards this goal. You will apply your knowledge to lead the identification and unlocking of the DSM market segments with valuable applications of the C-Trap product line.

What are my tasks & responsibilities?

  • Creating long-term sustained growth by identifying market and technology trends and opportunities, and provide input to R&D and product marketing on optimal value proposition development.
  • Support the C-Trap product managers in strategic product-market fit choices and messaging to generate an optimal value proposition and identify and continuously shape the R&D application roadmap.
  • Deliver the scientific input to develop biological assays; guide, manage and oversee the experimental design, workflow development, assay development, and analysis of the associated data.
  • Own the marketing data roadmap, including what is presented at conferences and customer sites.
  • Provide guidance to the C-Trap Application Scientist teams on scientific expertise and as a creative sparring partner on smart solutions to provide value to specific scientific research questions.
  • Represent LUMICKS at key scientific conferences, symposia, and webinars.
  • Provide inroads to academic KOL labs for business development and sales.
  • Establish and/or help to maintain relationships and serve as a key liaison between the company and its external scientific advisors, and the scientific (and investment) community.
  • Grow the C-Trap and broader Dynamic Single-Molecule intellectual property portfolio, ensuring sustained freedom to operate, while identifying and generating patentable IP, and ensuring the applications development team follows IP standard operating procedures.
  • Stay updated on technological advances and scientific trends in order to advise the team on scientific matters. This may include making recommendations on future projects, such as new research opportunities or technological ventures.
  • This role requires approximately 10-20% travel.

What about my skills & competencies?

  • You have a PhD and >5 years of experience as a PostDoc in the field of molecular or structural biology, protein engineering, genetics, or a similar discipline.
  • Your expertise lies in the field of DNA-binding proteins, preferably those associated with DNA repair, replication, transcription, or chromatin remodeling and dynamics.
  • You have experience with in vitro assays and have a thorough understanding of techniques used in the field of molecular biology, such as cryo-EM, FISH, ChIP, microscopy, NGS, single-cell sequencing, and other functional assays.
  • You have a complementary and interdisciplinary track record showing the adoption of different technologies.
  • You don’t need to be a single-molecule biophysicist, but you do see the added value Dynamic Single-Molecule research brings to science.
  • You worked internationally in the labs of different Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and are well connected in the scientific community.
  • You see market trends in the field of molecular biology and life sciences in general and up to date on all the latest science.
  • You have a track record of excellent written and oral communication with diverse audiences.
