Internal Control Specialist

Full-Time Position

Introduction

LUMICKS is looking for an Internal Control and Compliance Specialist for our office in Amsterdam, to help the Finance department to create and maintain an Internal Control Framework. You will get a unique opportunity to be closely involved in the decision-making process of a rapidly growing international business. You will work closely together with the Head of Internal Controls and Compliance and support the finance team in many aspects, including but not limited to documenting the process and test controls. You will be an important player in the European team, reporting to the Head of Internal Controls and acting as an intermediary between process owners and external auditors. To be successful in this role you need to have a clear understanding of what drives our business and be able to communicate effectively within all levels of the business. You require good stakeholder management skills to become a sparring partner for managers & decision makers. Furthermore, you are driven in delivering the best and most efficient result. You are innovative and have a strong capability to digest complex information.

What are my tasks & responsibilities?

  • Update understanding of process flows, risk assessments and control descriptions, walkthroughs (TOD) according to the COSO framework, for the company business processes.
  • Assess control environment and recommend changes with the aim of contributing to a  stronger control environment and companies objectives.
  • Advice and assist first-line managers during implementation or change of policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Perform a test of operational effectiveness (TOE).
  • Document test results, assess compensatory measures, and determine appropriate remediation.
  • Track remediation progress and report status frequently.
  • Act as an intermediary between process owners and auditors in matters of internal control.

What about my skills & competencies?

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in risk management, internal control, or audit.
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in business management or economics.
  • Professional certification CPA, or CIA, or CISA.
  • Profound knowledge of COSO and IFRS.
  • Experience with flowcharting and GRC tools. 
  • A solid understanding of financial reporting and financial processes in an international environment.
  • Good general knowledge of MS Office is essential, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A drive and enthusiasm make you stand out from the crowd.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Very strong analytical skills with a result-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately under strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English (required) and Dutch (nice-to-have).
  • Flexible and energetic person, hands-on mentality.
  • Assertive, team player, and an international mindset.
