Fluidics Design Engineer – Cell avidity

Full-time position


As a Fluidics Design Engineer, you plan, conceptualize, and create fluidics designs for new products. You are responsible for developing/writing and performing test plans of the new designs. In order to generate working prototypes for early and final testing and customer demonstration, the fluidics engineer performs rapid experimental prototyping and the validation thereof, creates a fluidics system/process/schematic, and may perform fluidics dynamics analysis. Furthermore, the Fluidics Design Engineer is responsible for creating detailed documentation to track project development and design processes ensuring that project timelines and budget limits are met. A good understanding of manufacturing techniques and material properties is key.

What are my tasks & responsibilities?

  • Plan, conceptualize and create fluidics designs for new products.
  • Schematic structure of the fluidics system containing flow control.
  • Develop testing processes in line with NPD, and perform verification and validation of new designs.
  • Collect all the user needs and requirements and translate these (via functional –  and component requirements) into design in & outputs for the fluidics design.
  • Ensure chemical compatibility of surface materials & fluids handled.
  • Generate working prototypes for beta testing and customer demonstration, sources appropriate fluidics equipment (Valves, pumps, controllers, containers).
  • Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer software.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and work with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Perform detailed documentation to track project development and design process.
  • Ensure project timeline is met and the project stays within budget.

What about my skills & competencies?

  • Over 3 years of fluidics engineering experience in Academia or Industry, ideally high-throughput automated cell handling.
  • Background and degree in Biophysics, Industrial Design, (Fine-)Mechanical, Biomedical engineering or similar.
  • Firm grasp of engineering concepts, and experience designing fluidics systems and products.
  • Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar.
  • Experience with the hands-on rapid prototype (3D printing, fluidics components assembly) and analysis tools (Microscopy, PIV).
  • Experience in engineering analysis is preferred but not required: Fluid flow Stress, thermal, vibration, and fatigue analysis.
  • Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
  • Experience within the IVD or MD is preferred.
  • Assertive, team player, and an international mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately under strict deadlines.
  • Flexible and energetic person, hands-on mentality.
